Candle Info, Care & Safety

Soy Wax Information:

Soy wax candles vs "the other candles"  ...  not all candles are created equally, what you need to know when purchasing candles anywhere!

The most common wax used in candle making is paraffin, a petroleum based wax that is not good for your health or the environment. Black soot and toxins emanate from paraffin wax while burning. Ever wonder why you see black soot on your walls or surfaces? Paraffin originates from a non-renewable source. This wax is still used because it's cheap and easy to work with.  You will often find Paraffin wax candles at discount stores and yes, one of our favourite home goods store!  They look and may smell good but don't be fooled, the wax quality is likely not equal to our hand poured soy wax candles even if the label reads "soy wax".  Often companies will use a small percentage of soy wax and the rest of the wax may be several other varieties not so desirable, however they will still label as "SOY WAX", read the fine print!

Soy Wax is Natural

All that is used to make our candles is 100%  natural soy wax, 100% cotton wick and  phthalate/paraben free fragrance and/or essential oils. Soy wax is derived from soybean oil and is biodegradable.

Instructions for Caring for your  Candle

Upon lighting your candle, ensure the wax melt pool extends to all sides of the vessel. This process typically can take  2 to 5 hours, depending on the candle vessel's size. Achieving this ensures an even burn and a visually pleasing experience each time it is lit.  Extinguishing the candle too soon may cause as "tunnel" around to form around the wick therefore causing the wick to burn out over time.

You should never blow out your wick, when  you want to extinguish your wick place the candle lid on top to prevent soot from going into it.

Very important - Trim your wick to 1/4 inch every time you relight your candle.  If a black "wick bud" has formed on top your wick you want to ensure you remove it to prevent an over heated candle and unpleasant  smoke.  You can use a wick trimmer, nail clippers or scissors.

Safety - you should never burn your candle more than 6 hours at one time.  Doing so may cause your candle to get too hot and become a fire hazard.  Never leave a candle unattended and keep it away from children and pets, open windows and drafts.
